A name for iNaturalist's AI / computer vision

It occurred to me that iNaturalist’s AI doesn’t have a proper name yet.

We could collect some ideas and then vote on the favorite one.

This came to mind for me:

Linnaəus

The schwa serves to go beyond the gender.

The AI reminds me of the Paul Simon song “You Can Call Me Al”. So I call the AI “Al” … short for Algorithm. Although technically it’s the CV.

Any person’s name will only serve to humanize the AI, and we shouldn’t be in a hurry with this sort of thing.

Any unrelated word that’s not obviously “a machine that identifies” at first glance only makes the process more opaque to outsiders, and that’s not a good thing either.

Identotron works for me.

If Identotron is chosen, it needs to read out species name suggestions in the Fred voice from Mac Text-to-Speech (think Radiohead’s Fitter, Happier or Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction).

A number of botany-related computers or systems already have the name Linnaeus, so I don’t recommend that.
