I usually interpret the sex annotation as only applying to dioecious plant species that have separate male and female individuals. This means that the annotation is really only applicable to a few plant species. For a plant with fruits/seeds, I would just mark them as fruiting under phenology. That is more likely to be searched than female to find out when a species is producing seeds.
