I work in a university lab that maintains a colony of sabethes chloropterus mosquitoes. I noticed a page exists for sabethes chloropterus on inaturalist, but no reference photo is available. I understand the preference for wild photos of organisms is the focus of inaturalist, but would it be appropriate to post photos of my laboratory specimens so the site has at least one reference photo on file?

Yep that’s totally fine! Just be sure to check the box for “captive/cultivated” when you make the observation. Once it’s uploaded you can go to the species page, click Curation>Edit photos, choose the second item in the dropdown, and re-Search. (The default “choose photos” section will exclude captive/cultivated observations.)
