Adding your iNaturalist page to your iNatForum profile

Yeah, rather than spend a whoooole lotta developer time trying to build their own forum software into the iNat website, they moved from using Google Groups to this Discourse platform in early 2019. https://groups.google.com/d/msg/inaturalist/72l44kifzsM/7-OLse_YAAAJ

And the option to be a member of the forum but not of iNat is just a feature of that solution, I guess. Yes? Or was there an actual decision to leave the forum open to non-iNat members? It’s an interesting aspect of the culture.

Just an FYI:
In the iNat profile link on the forum yesterday, I noticed I couldn’t visit someone’s page because the link on their card had doubled the first part of the address (“https://www.inaturalist.org/people/https://www.inaturalist.org/people/[user id number]”.

Today, I noticed it did the same on my profile and card, as well as a few other users:

It doesn’t seem to be universal, though…it’s only affecting users who put have their iNat profile URL instead of the user display name.

The profile settings currently says to add your user name, but I could have sworn it worked previously, so I’m not sure if something changed or if I always had it wrong and never noticed.

I think when we made that field more clever (so you can just enter your iNat username and it formats the link automatically) it messed up the formatting for people who added the entire url earlier. So anyone who has been around the forum for a while should probably check our forum profile and edit.

Oh, good, I’m not imagining it worked before.
Was there an announcement I overlooked?

The user I first noticed it on joined the forum on August 5th, per their profile. Do you know when the change was implemented?

I don’t think we announced it since it was a minor thing.

Looking back at my exchanges with Ken-ichi, it was August 14.
