AI Identifies Palm Fruits as Parrots

There are so many pictures of parrots on these fruits that the iNaturalist AI learned to recognize parrots through the fruits, even though the parrot does not exist.

And if you upload a photo of a penny, you’ll get human louse as a suggestion, along with some other small bugs.

Yep, when I was uploading pictures of spring beauties(flower) it was suggesting spring beauty miner(bee), it’s all just association.

The AI is trained on observations, and humans tend to pay more attention to animals than to plants, so the AI often looks for animals instead of plants, and makes interpretations based on that.

It’s not really the fault of the AI, it’s the ‘fault’ of the human bias the AI is trained on.

At least it’s not confident - that’s a good sign, it’s probbaly working as intended.

I don’t know it’s still true, and the CV used to label a pile of boulders as “Elephant Seal.” There certainly is a resemblance.
