Description of problem:
Step 1: It seems that the Android app does not always access the GPS information available on the phone. This could be user error. I have an app called “ActiveGPS” which when turned on both uses battery faster and makes GPS acquisition faster/more accurate. Other apps like “GPS Data” clearly benefit from it as they get my location faster and very accurately even when I’m not near cell towers (phone is a Pixel 9, it has some hardware GPS capabilities)
But when far from cell phone towers, the iNaturalist app often does not pick up my location. I’ve resorted to taking a screenshot of the “GPS Data” app screen and adding it to the record so that I can then manually add the coordinates when I get home, but that’s not appropriate to do with sensitive species. Is there a way to improve how the Android App acquires GPS data?
