Common green June beetles are a stunning jade, especially when they are accentuated on a pink background.
Wow! That’s really pretty!
Apparently this is the place for chlorophiliacs to meet.
Gently descending from a tree on a string of silk this larva landed right on this leaf next to me
Who said I can’t revive my forum? The reaction it got was unnecessary. Thankfully, it seems it didn’t discourage me to the level of quitting the forum.
Posting because this fits the category but also to test an answer I got to my question in Forum Feedback about resizing my photos in an effort to take up less space. Meet the Giant Katydid with it’s very leaf like shape and color, making it an expert in camouflage. I believe they are invasive in Florida. Some days it feels like what isn’t invasive in Florida as we seem to have more than our share of invasive species here.
Yay it appears to have worked.
Like @isopodguy said, they’re kinda loads of things to add here :P
BUT, if we’re ignoring plants
here’s one of my favorite greenies:
There are indeed many creatures that can be added here. Green is a very prevalent color in all things nature and there is probably a great deal of discussion that could take place in this topic on the subject of why and how it is so prevalent. There is of course, the obvious of camouflage but what other factors contribute to this prevalence. Comments about each species and their behavior, habitat, location… could also be discussed. There is room in every topic for discussion including photo heavy ones that can draw a lot of attention and can encourage young and old people to learn more about nature.
Just a few of my favourites:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/304901159, awesome shiny beetle
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/305166423, blending in…
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/258715314, it has only 16 research grade obs in Maharashtra, and only 1 in Pune district, which is mine!
share green organisms!
preferably not plants and algae to avoid this thread being almost entirely plants and algae
mine are all insects:
Please note this thread, which is still open: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/any-green-organisms/
Merged the two posts above to this thread to keep all the green discussion together.
I love to click on links in threads like this. Then I look at the user’s profile, and sometimes their other observations. It’s a good way to learn more about them.
But it helps if you entice someone to open them:
I have quite a variety of green creature obs. Here are a few favorites, because they are cute (bug, frog - not as cute as @ra_teo ’s though!), vibrant (caterpillar, katydid) or unusual (sponge).

I found this grasshopper last month while I was walking near a creek. I was able to get pretty close to it so I got a decent picture.

Also, earlier this month I saw a dead Chinese Mantis on the ground so I took some pictures of it.
This is a great example of a green organism. Plus it is shaped like a leaf making this Giant Katydid and expert at camouflage. Though this individual isn’t putting it to good use.
no green lacewings yet?
