There is an abundance of living things in the world that are green. Most plants, for example
And not only plants are green, because where there are plants, there are animals, and many will try to camouflage to blend in. Plus all of the other creatures in the world that are green(ish) for reasons unknown to me. We all know there are lots of green plants, though, so how about some green animals!
Especially in the thread about the color green, there would be a temptation to flood it with just about any kind of plants, since green is their default color. There was an attempt at a plant discussion thread: FloraForum: A Place to Chat About Plants - Nature Talk - iNaturalist Community Forum, but it got an adverse reaction almost right away. This seemed strange to me because nobody put the kibosh on the bird, herp, moth, or arachnid threads, even though they were equally wide ā and the moth thread even used the word āfourmā in its name. Why single out that one for differential treatment? I thought that was sad, and tried to keep it going with what turned out to be the last post. āThe FloraForumā died out after 17 posts.
Thanks, Jason. Iām thinking about adding this thread to the directory post. I wanted to see how this thread plays out. Forum users are often reluctant to click on links to photos. And two posts is barely a thread!
I seriously thought about starting a thread like this but had a feeling I would run into moderator trouble as you did. I was thinking that if I started it I would exclude plants so the thread didnāt get flooded with plant photos. Perhaps you can edit to exclude plants making Admin a bit happier. So few people will actually take the time to click on links. I wish the moderators would fund raise more instead of discouraging photographs. If I recall correctly we are no where near a price increase limit though so I do not get why photos are being discourage so. I have a lot to share in this thread but hesitate because I donāt want to post links no one looks at. For me links are harder and more time consuming to find than my original photos are many times. I also have many that I might not have shared with iNat because they are old and I donāt recall locationā¦Add: Actually noted that moderators have not actually weighed in on this. I couple people have mentioned Moderators previous statements on other threads about over sharing photographs.
Sometime right before spring came in the US THIS year(2025), these threads started and took off. Cabin fever? We also welcomed many new and eager (younger) members that have seemingly flooded this Discussion forum into what has begun to feel like a brag board of photos instead of starting a true discussion of anything, including thinly veiled brag photos listed as āforumā.
Certainly there exists many other platforms to display photos to appease this?
Forum moderators have politely asked for this to be discouraged, and yetā¦
Moderators here are all volunteers, generously giving their time to help keep the forum running smoothly. Fundraising isnāt something theyāre involved in, nor is it something we expect from them. Their role is to help maintain the forumās usability and focus.
The first couple of themed threads were fun and engaging, but when similar threads began popping up for every variation (every color, by pattern, etc.) it quickly became too much of a good thing.
This great green bush cricket (Tettigonia Veridissima) really showed me that my RX10 is pretty good at capturing the smaller critters (if you can call these guys small)
I spend time on two social media sights iNat getting the majority of the time I spend. I have very painful issues with my neck so I have to limit the amount of time I spend on the computer. I enjoy seeing other peoples photos because they are quick information. I cannot spend a ton of time reading discussion topics so I like the photos. A pictures is worth a thousand words after all.
iNaturalist is full of wordless photos.
The forum is for discussions.
Other platforms are available for posting photos and getting feedback attention.
There are many iNatters with a full range of health issues.
