Best intentions on the trail

That story makes me so angry–especially the seeming lack of remorse.

Absolutely. But the influencer has probably lost the sponsorship that gave her a holiday in Australia.
Deleted her video - too late - the wombat society has it.
Made her Instagram private - but then she has binned the traffic for future sponsorship.

Good–she really shouldn’t be allowed back. Imagine having the good luck of having someone else sponsor your trip to a wonderful place and you then are so selfish that you cause harm to that place.

Those cutter blades on weed trimmers are no joke. Be cautious anyone who chooses to use one. We operate them when clearing heavy brush when volunteering, and the rule is to not step within 10 feet of anyone operating one. They’d slice through ankles like butter. They do wonders for clearing spaces that would otherwise require heavy labor, though. Luckily, we haven’t gotten any wildlife with the blades directly, though there was an incident with a frog and a wayward piece of reed…not pretty.

I’m not sure of any other alternatives, unfortunately.

Wildlife frequently gets hurt when maintaining habitats, especially man-made ones like meadows. We frequently find dead slow-worms, but also sometimes frogs, snakes or mice when mowing meadows and dryinh the hay. It can happen even during careful manual work with scythes. It is a part of the process. Without doing that, the habitat would slowly turn into bushes and later a forest.

Oh yeah. I wish it hadn’t happened, but it is unfortunately a common occurrence. I still feel terrible every time. We normally tear up at least one rat’s nest while clearing a study plot each year. If we’re lucky, no one’s home. If not, then, well…bad time for all involved.

We get a lot of bags hanging from trees around here, but they’re left by dog walkers who think that Poo Fairies clear up after them…
