Any one who have observed some of the small partridges would have noticed this - that very often their flight response is to run uphill really fast. Chukar Partridges do this very often.

This is an arguement (or explanation) i like to use -
“like a potato and a human - if we go back far enough - are essentially the same thing”
Some people don’t like this evolutionary relationship / comparision :-)

I’ve never seen any kind of partridge before, nor pheasant, grouse, ptarmigan, or prairie-chicken. There aren’t any where I live.

Isn’t that often the way it works. It brings to mind the Sydney J. Harris quote: “Nobody can be so amusingly arrogant as a young man who has just discovered an old idea and thinks it is his own.”
