I was out birding to see a large flock of Red-winged blackbirds. I was enjoying listening to them, when overhead this hawk sp. Cooper’s/Sharp-shinned flew over. Then I noticed something… the Red-winged blackbirds had completely stopped making noise and there must have been well over a 100 of them being loud before. Then when the hawk disappeared there was some tentative chatter, before the full noise resumed. I had experienced such a predator reaction in progress before.
Edit: Got identified as a Cooper’s hawk.
