Well I made a big mistake. The ā€œSnow Geeseā€ that I thought flew over weā€™re actually Tundra swans. Lol. I guess every bird makes a mistake here and there.

No worries!

I once made an even bigger mistake. A few years ago, I had all of the local, hard-core birders (15+) chase a ā€œNeotropic Cormorantā€ that was actually just a juvenile Double-crested with a really wierd (but convincing!) plumage abnormality.
Letā€™s just say that I learned the hard way. :sweat_smile:

And I once thought I found the Stellerā€™s Sea-eagle that was near my home, but it was a juvie bald eagle!! :grimacing:

I wish you could come to the spot I found EASO in eastern MT. You can watch them during the day and get pretty close to them. (ESOW or EASO? did they change the banding code?)

This weekend was pretty much all for birding. On Saturday, I covered area 10 of the Sacramento CBC. My group got 84 species which is on the low end of average. The main area where we get waterfowl and raptors is still cutoff by a massive construction project on the expansion of the Sacramento Bypass and Weir.

Today I chased some rare birds including my state Field Sparrow in Half Moon Bay.

We also got a vagrant Dusky-capped Flycatcher nearby for a good San Mateo County bird. After that we tried for the Graceā€™s Warbler at Fort Miley in SF without success.
