This strange wood-dwelling fungus caught my eye yesterday. I had to look closely to determine that it really was fungal and not just piles of fallen sawdust from the canopy above.

Here was an unexpected surprise. I broke off a dead twig tip from a Chinese privet to get a closer look at the Stereum fungus growing from the end of it. Once I had it in-hand, I noticed this tiny lichen, which I think is Alyxoria:

The grid squares are 5x5mm, that is 1/2cm square.
