Cannot select BONE annotation

I did try to search for this since it may have been asked before, but could not find it.

When I set an unknown observation to “animal,” I am unable to select “bone” as an annotation. I am thinking “bone” is an annotation that might help someone with knowledge locate the observation for an ID (I notice that often if I set something to a “track” it will get an ID). Here is the observation:

Just wondering if there is a reason why an animal cannot have a “bone” annotation (I can do that with Aves or Mammals) - in this case, base don the iNat suggestions, I’m not clear on whether it is bird (which is what I thought) or a mammal (which is what iNat is suggesting) so I just want ID as animal in hopes an expert can ID it.

If it helps, it is indeed an Avian skull

Probably because animal kingdom also includes many boneless animals such as insects. If you see bones it is safe to assume that you see a vertebrate.

Both are within Vertebrata (vertebrates), so IDing to that level will allow you to add “bone” for “evidence of presence”.

Thank you!

Thank you for the explanation.

Thank you. I thought it was an avian skull, but was confused by iNat suggesting mammals.
