well i’m not at all trying to argue anyone should post that they have covid if they don’t want to, i am just explaining why i did it, because people were asking why anyone would do that. I also don’t have much of a filter, in general, which isn’t always ideal but seems fine in this case
I’m not disagreeing with you, just explaining why my initial reaction was surprise that people were posting covid results, I don’t think you are doing anything wrong
Even at that, the genitalia doesn’t need to be posted, if you have a microscope, some dye, and a little thought power. Even if someone posts an STI, the whole image of genitalia isn’t needed-- a picture of an open sore in a more discreet spot would be good
it would all depend on the type of infection and where it’s spread to. Even then, block out genitalia is another possibility. Not that I’m pro-STI posting, I’m just saying there’s ways to work around.
Even then, not all the STIs are spreading from copulation
individuals whom give birth while infected will pass the infection on with their newborn. And I doubt a Dr is going to take pictures of a random child and post those here. That’s where the privacy issues comes into play. (…but if it’s being tracked by government agencies, how is that not a privacy concern…)
It’s interesting to think about iNaturalist having a medical side for things like that. But then it wouldn’t be out in wild nature – it would just be posting human nature in a controlled environment. I doubt iNat ever get to the point where it partners with a hospital or medical journals to track the spread of pathologies in any sense. The govt already monitors that kind of stuff
And wheres the privacy concern when it’s someone posting their medical papers if their personal info is blocked out
and if they’re posting, they’re consenting to allowing it to be put into the ethers. I can see some overbearing mother hyper fixating on posting their children’s infections and violating the child’s privacy.
Just some random thoughts that come to mind.
Actually I think it would… our bodies are effectively “wild nature” for all the other organisms we willingly or unwillingly host
