Cutest observation you've found? (Observation stories, part 1?)

I for sure do as well… who could resist a baby antelope or those damn cute Baby seals ?

But if you would force me to chose a non-baby-animal-observation for this category, it is for sure this one: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/37754865

Whilst taking a walk through state game lands a couple summers ago my son spotted a small creature along a creek. It turned out to be a Woodland Jumping Mouse (Napaeozapus insignis).

I scrambled down the bank to get a closer look and couldn’t believe how cute it was up-close! I wasn’t super-pleased with my photographs…but SO glad we were able to observe it for some time…

It eventually left its shelter among the roots and vines of the bank and enter the water. It swam very fast and far until it arrived on the opposite side of the creek, climbed out and hopped away. The photo below is the best one I could get, but I think it showcases its wonderful namesake back legs/feet!

Thank you! I was so lucky to get this shot. I was actually lying on my belly to photograph some birds on a parking lot, when this scene between some ranger and this little fellow happened and I just happen to be in the perfect position :-)

I usually don’t add observations of juvenile jumping spiders (since they are hard to ID), but this thread inspired me to!

And one I didn’t post previously…yes, we shouldn’t anthropomorphize animals, but the expression on this chipmunk’s face is priceless. Caption: “Peanuts? Why, no, I have no knowledge of any missing peanuts.”
