Do you ever get songs stuck in your head related to nature observations?

For a while now I’ve been humming “Philadelphia Freedom” and it seems to trace back to seeing specimens or posts of Erigeron philadelphicus, known commonly as Philadephia Fleabane. Anyone else have this problem?

All the time. E.g., “American Woman” by the Guess Who, whenever I see an American Wigeon. Probably shows I’m not only old but a little nuts.

RuPaul’s “Bring Back My Girls,” whenever there’s a bird-less lull on an outing…bring back my birds…where they at?..get 'em back…come on…!

“All Night Long” by Lionel Richie when I’ve had to do all-night surveys for Black-footed Ferrets and am delirious from lack of sleep. (There was a great commercial on TV a few years ago – can’t remember for what – showing nocturnal animals doing their thing, accompanied by that song.)

I suppose we all have our own personal mental playlists when out in nature.

There’s an old song, before my time, called “My Blue Heaven.”

Not only is it one of my favorite birds but there’s a park I know rather well… “My Blue Heron.”

I was working for the Forest Service, doing radio telemetry of white-tailed deer. I was out late at night, triangulating the location of a fawn, when I saw the fawn’s eyeshine watching me. The song popped into my head: “My private eyes, they’re watching you…”
