Does your nature knowledge spoil fiction?

Interesting side note to appreciating familiar over accurate, I was once watching a documentary extra on a DVD - one of the Lord of the Rings films I think - and the director was talking about going for realism by putting in a more accurate and very subtle sound a sword makes when it’s drawn from a leather scabbard (not the knife sharpening sound you usually hear in movies). Long story short, the “non-sound” was so jarring when playing back the movie, they had to put the incorrect sound in instead!

I’m not sure how accurate it is, but I’ve also heard that a silenced pistol sounds more like a car door being slammed, not the barely perceptible whistle that you hear on the screen.
