when I download data for South Dakota the data for place_county_name for “Union” has “Union County, US, SD” but all of the other counties are just the county name without “County, US, SD”. I’m perplexed why this is happening and couldn’t find an answer. Is there a way to fix this.
There are so many counties with the same name that the drop-down when you search for them sometimes doesn’t show them all. In some cases I think staff have edited them so that you can at least find them by adding the state name to the search query.
But South Dakota has other common county names like Lincoln, Clay, Grant that do not have the state and country. Per Wiki, these are the most common county names in the US. I see Lincoln, Clay, and Grant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_most_common_U.S._county_names
I’m wondering if the state and country could be removed from the name.
Right, so either staff haven’t edited those county names for any states, or they edited the Lincoln/Clay/Grant county for a different state than South Dakota.
What @bouteloua wrote is correct, and I think it’s probably better to keep the name as it currently is than change it back. You should be able to change Union County, US, SD to Union in a spreadsheet program, correct?
I am changing it in the spreadsheet but just seems odd it’s only Union county.
