Downsides of more identifiers?

[cthawley]

Just a note that staff have clarified that

@tiwane

• We are not currently accepting new feature requests related to

  • ID weighting, e.g. based on expertise

so it isn’t a change they intend to make in the future, and it is something that has been discussed on the forum before. Making a case for adding this seems pretty far off from the OP’s original question, so I’d suggest trying to keep the thread on the topic of

@nathantaylor

I’m curious about the following:

1. Have you noticed an increase in the number of tags to help overturn bad identifications?
2. Have you noticed generally more bad identifications than in the past? This is probably quantifiable by seeing if the number of Maverick IDs is on the rise.
3. Have you noticed an increase in observations stuck at a higher level taxon due to a combination of how few people identify the organism and the increase in bad identifications?

If there are other potential downsides, feel free to discuss, though I’d prefer to steer away from the discussions that have played out many times over on this forum.
