FAQ on the iNat Website Might Need a Little Tweaking

I’m in the middle of pulling stuff together in support of CNC, and I went to the Help/FAQ section of the site to find a definition of What is iNaturalist. I’m not sure who curates these, so I thought I’d post here. The definition of iNat is:

iNaturalist provides a place to record and organize nature findings, meet other nature enthusiasts, and learn about the natural world. It encourages the participation of a wide variety of nature enthusiasts, including, but not exclusive to, hikers, hunters, birders, beach combers, mushroom foragers, park rangers, ecologists, and fishermen. Through connecting these different perceptions and expertise of the natural world, iNaturalist hopes to create extensive community awareness of local biodiversity and promote further exploration of local environments.

Which is a lovely explanation of what iNat does but not of what iNat is, as I think that “place” isn’t descriptive enough if one has absolutely no idea what iNat is… Maybe it could start with something like “iNat is an online database…” or “an online platform for recording and organizing…” etc etc.

Sorry to pick nits…

This page has what you need: https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/what+is+it

" iNaturalist is an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn about nature

It’s also a crowdsourced species identification system and an organism occurrence recording tool."

That image at the top of that page is very cool… who is the subject? Is it possible to get permission to use that image in preparing promotional material?

For publicity material I usually find suitable images on Pixabay:
