Making observations in my family’s gardens is the most relaxed and I have the peace of mind to look more closely and wait. (And also, I can just stop at any time or upload stuff I’m most curious about)
Another favourite place is the botanical garden of my university. The high diversity of plant species means there is quite a high diversity of insects too and it is also a quite beautiful place.
Lastly, there are a bunch of fields and forests I really like, but I cannot really rank them. I like making observations in different and especially in new spots to see what lives there.
I’m lucky enough that I can walk out my back door and onto forested trails that can take me to several local parks or the foreshore as I see fit. I love seeing the changes over the seasons. It can be easy to take it for granted but every few days there is something that reminds me how lucky I am to be on this land.
I have been in my present home for a decade. Out my door and off I go. I moved here because it’s rural and forested. There are acres to wander.
Where I was there were two public parks nearby. I photographed them heavily, pre-iNat. It was a challenge in one of them to exclude obvious signs of humans, but the waterfowl were irresistible. The other park is acres of great finds. Lakeshore Park in Novi Michigan. I’ve been gone for a decade, the paths are probably different. The essentials are still there.
