Feedback on a learning app for edible wild plants using iNat (via GBIF) observation data

Hi professor_porcupine

“Yikes… makes ya wonder who’s bright idea was it to lump everything under a single genus”

Genus is a technical term, used correctly.
see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxonomic_rank

But I agree with your sentiment, and have whinged on many threads on this forum about inappropriate ‘common names’.

And while I’m whingeing

“I think ti’s very smart you put “Use this as educational guidance, not a guarantee of identification. Never collect or consume plants based solely on this app — always confirm independently.” - Probably saves you from the litigation trouble”

No, doesn’t work. I made a map that contained all the usual disclaimers, some idiot fell over a cliff, tried to sue me. Said “Yes but I didn’t read that bit, should have been more visible.” Didn’t go far, but still cost me. Made me very risk averse.
