Hi, I was wondering how the taxon swap process works. The iNaturalist taxonomy apparanlty accepted the split of Callosciurus caniceps and Callosciurus concolor. That means that all Callosciurus caniceps in the country of Malaysia should be transfered to C. concolor (in Southern Thailand I can check everything manually). How can I arrange that all these Malaysian observations are updated? It is too much to do manually.
Cheers!
Daan
The taxon swap was set using atlases which should have re-IDed all Calosciurus in Malaysia as C. concolor, but It seems that it did not work as expected.
EDIT : Looking more to the split, it seems that both species are accepted but hte swap has still not been validated, which explains why lots of observations are not re-IDed.
the taxon swap has not been implemented yet, it’s still in draft: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/159361
the split has been atlased, so in areas where only one species occurs under the new circumscriptions, all IDs will be automatically swapped over, no manual worked needed. If there are areas of sympatry, then records there will be pushed back to genus, and those will then need to be manually reassessed. If you had any comments, questions, etc., please ask them directly on the swap itself (that I linked above)
Great, thanks for explaining how this process works. I will comment on the draft.
