I also don’t understand why the ‘iNat Forum’ is visible to the public and just anyone can create an account for the Forum.
Search incognito for - username iNatforum … and whoever you are, you will land in this thread. Freely available for any bored troll looking to pick a fight with a fresh audience. Yes!!
If we are discussing iNat surely the minimum requirement should be a link to ‘your iNat account’ please.
The only way to do that is to log in to inaturalist.org when you create or sign in to your forum account. Doesn’t work if you’re logged in to a network site like iNaturalistCA in your browser. So we allow people to create their own account without the iNat linking.
Spam has been a pretty minor issue here overall, although I’ve seen more lately. If you see it please flag it and we can block the IP it originates from. One thing we can do is change the permissions for various trust levels, but that might prevent someone new from making a new bug report or asking a question. Like everything, there’s always a trade-off.
