How Will iNat Deal With the Bird Renaming Project?

As many of you probably know, there is a project to rename all the birds that are named after people. Will iNat just switch to the new names, or will they do something else, such as adding the old name in parentheses so people can adjust (like eBird, I think)?

there have been several previous discussions about this: https://forum.inaturalist.org/search?q=AOS

Oh, thanks! I’ve heard that the AOS will let the public add their ideas for new names. Where do I do this?

I would like to know too. Steller’s Jay ----> Stellar Jay is one i’d like to suggest.

I’m fairly certain the old English-language names will not disappear on iNat and both the new and old will work if searching on a species. There are already bird species with more than one active English name on the site .

Yes, iNat will most likely follow what Clements does as it’s always has (With Clements usually following the AOS)

Thank you!

I have a whole list of new bird name ideas, including Swainson’s Hawk > Grasshopper Hawk.
