Hola welcome to the forum

About the Natural Talk category

“This category is a catch-all for nature-related topics that aren’t directly related to iNaturalist. It’s not a place to get help with identifying your nature observations (that’s what iNaturalist itself is for!).”

Ok, I am still working on figuring out the app. Will try harder.

as noted by @lordcaravan, the best way to get your photos ID’ed is to upload them to iNaturalist itself

feel free to ask any questions if you’re unsure how to do this. Also keep in mind iNaturalist is available as both an app and on the desktop, so if you’ve only tried one of those, it’s worth trying the other to see if you find it easier

Ok, I did it…now I know it is easy. The plant ID’d as water purslane ludwigia palutris. Can iNaturalist tell me whether it is classified as a weed in my area or indig/ok?
Other than doing the ID is there anything else I should do? Is it worth logging?

Great!

Definitely worth formally posting it to iNaturalist for three reasons (among many):

  1. The ID that you mentioned is just a suggestion from iNat’s computer vision. Actually submitting the record will allow other users (ie actual humans rather than just the software) to either confirm that ID or correct it.
  2. Once you post it, the system will show you whether it’s native or not to your area; if it’s introduced to your area, you’ll see a big pink exclamation mark on the record.
  3. All data points may be useful to someone either now or in the future.
