Description of problem:
Navigate to any of the above, which are sorted “Ascending”, but the Filters displays “Descending”. The Sort By should instead say “Ascending”.

Thanks for reporting, I noticed this many times but somehow it never occurred to me to report it. It only costs me a few seconds’ confusion but I guess it’s worth knowing about.

I was going to report this, but I was shown a link to this past report.

I use this process a lot. I go through the Explore page to Identify because the Explore Map allows me to use the (somewhat new) box and circle select to select a region on the map. So, this matters to me.

And, I learned about this through another post in the forums about being able to use that Explore Map selection tool to get a specific area for identification purposes. So, others are doing this, too. So, maybe a fix on this “lost” sort by filter should be reconsidered.

If the Identify button is on that Filters window, then the filters selected should carry over from the Explore filters to the Identification filters.

The best reason to fix this is that, a lot of the older observations are sitting. I recently started sorting by ascending order to get to them. And, I do the audio observations - primarily birds. A lot of these have been sitting for years.

  1. Open iNaturalist.

  2. Click on “Explore”.

  3. Click on “Filter”.

  4. Check the “Need ID” checkbox.
The green circle appears on the main page behind the open Filter window next to “Filters”. It shows “1”.

  5. Change the “Sort By” dropdown list to “Asc”.
The green circle on the main page behind the open Filter window next to “Filters” changes to show “2”.
The Grid on the main page behind the open Filter window changes.

  1. Click on “Identify” in the Filters window.
The Filters window closes and the main page changes to the Identify page layout.
The Filters (next to the blue “Go”) displays “1”.
It should display “2”. It has lost the “Asc” selection.

  1. Click on Filters which opens the Filters window.
The Sort by shows “Descending”. It should show “Ascending”.

The observations should be sorted by ascending order.
