If an animal like a cat or dog has little to no restriction to where they go, whether there’s no cage, leash, or anything to keep them in one place, but is clearly still owned by someone, is it still a captive individual?
A cat or dog held by humans by bonds of love, but no cage, leash, or fence, is captive. A feral cat or dog not bound to a human is wild. https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000169932-what-does-captive-cultivated-mean-
I see no mention of the words “bond” nor “love” in the help article. Is it a mistake/translation issue?
No, that’s me trying to reword or explain it.
I have similar doubt, I saw an escapee java sparrow, should it be wild or captive
Im 100% sure it had escaped its owner but it obviously can’t settle in the wild as java sparrows are not in the wild in my country
escapees are wild once they’ve moved away from the general site they escaped from
okay thankyouu
