Is there a person or a place i can send species to for DNA and Genetic analysis to identify species?

Also… there’s a “bar coding” channel on the inat Discord server. I’m happy you’re part of the conversation here too tho.

Yeah never heard of him when i started my goal, brother asked if i was gonna be like him

Banned on that server sadly

I said some stuff and got kicked, so i rejoined and they kept kicking me with no reason given so i kept joining, then i was banned because i was “evading punishment”

I really like the idea of occasionally sending things off to an upstart company that is supporting the concept of barcoding in an egalitarian way. I have no interest in figuring out the details of it myself. Just like supporting those trying to make the technology more accessible.

yeah, and hey it helps me as well

If you got good at identifying microorganisms, you could spend the next 50 years in one city block without running out of new species.

I also want to take the opportunity to remind everyone on this thread to maintain a civil tone. In the future, if you find yourself getting angry at another person’s comment, flag it so that a moderator can step in as soon as possible.

Considering I’m four days late, I’m not sure whether re-opening old wounds would be helpful. I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread moving forward.

I agree with this, but what I’ve found is that traveling to inaccessible places is more fun (at least to me). The other thing I’ve noticed… trying to restore a small bit of land that you yourself own has been more fun to me than travel -or- identifying micro-organisms… just personal preference. What inevitably happens when you restore a space is that you look more and more closely at that place… while at the same time trying to ecologically restore it. I like that exploration and discovery, including DNA testing is increasingly open to everyone. Especially since I might want to engage in it on the place I’m restoring.
