In my area (Alberta) and some contiguous areas (where S. canadensis hasn’t naturalized… and I see from the previous comment uncertainty as to whether it has done so in BC) the plants that were formerly classified as Solidago canadensis are now considered to be Solidago altissima and Solidago lepida; see Vascular Flora of Alberta (Kershaw & Allen).

That is really interesting. I have happily identified L. minor in Louisiana, as it looks exactly like the L. minor I know from Denmark. I never knew to check manuals, as the CV helpfully (?) also suggests it. So I learned something new today.
