It seems suprising that a raptor has yet to win the tournament. @birdwhisperer in the years you have done this do you see any consistent indications as to what voters seem to be selecting for in matchups? or maybe save that to the end so we don’t try to unconcsioisly buck those trends in our voting.

Downy Woodpecker
American Kestrel
Varied Thrush
Mallard
Snowy Owl
Red Crossbill
Anna’s Hummingbird
Ferruginous Hawk

Wow, @trickman, I hadn’t even looked at your votes but accidentally voted almost the same!

Downy WP
American Kestrel
Black-capped Chickadee
Mallard
Red-winged Blackbird
Bald Eagle
Willet
Eastern Bluebird

@fluffyinca i’ve never seen a rose-breasted grosbeak, and kestrels have always been a favorite, but other than that, the same. Good taste, i guess : ) i have noticed that i don’t seem to have consistent criteria on selecting winners. It’s just off the cuff and by the seat of my pants, if that’s possible.

That was a hard choice for me, and I’m now wishing I’d picked kestrel, so apparently we have very similar taste in birds! As far as I know I’ve never seen either species.

I vote
-Double-crested Cormorant
-Lewis’s Woodpecker
-Canvasback
-White Ibis
-Osprey
-Violet-green Swallow
-Northern Saw-whet Owl
-Red-tailed Hawk

Sorry bit late hopefully you can still count them if not that’s alright.

If your post has yet to be ‘liked’, then possibly time to edit your vote to kestrel, if you wanted

Downy Woodpecker
American Kestrel
Black-capped Chickadee
American Goldfinch
Snowy Owl
Red Crossbill
Anna’s Hummingbird
Ferruginous Hawk

By accepting your vote a day late, it solves one problem but adds two. In an overall sense about 10-20 people are voting this year and Northern Saw-whet Owl vs Dark-eyed Junco was all tied up. My rule is, if a tie occurs, the higher seed/rank wins by default, so I called the owl as winner. Your vote affirms the win.

However, by voting for Lewis’s Woodpecker and Violet-green Swallow, you’ve tied those matchups. In the long run, those two still lost applying my higher rank rule. So personally, I think accepting the vote is ok, but I will discourage late votes, especially if those votes overturn an already decided matchup.
