hi all. I recently have run into a problem while identifying large numbers of snakes and others genera on inat. This problem is that a good swath of monotypic species of not only snakes but everything (Tropidoclonion, Diadophis Arizona are some examples for snakes) being identified at genus level instead of the actual species. It makes it pretty inconvenient for me and others when identifying, and it’s not the observers fault of course, they got it right, it’s just it makes it more confusing for everyone. it also makes it hard for the identifiers like myself when I accidentally identify them to genus (ring necked snake vs ring necked snakes is very similar and the taxon photo is quite simmilar and the same species, just a different photo. if anyone has any ideas or reasons why I would love to know!
thanks all, Caleb
