But that leaf will live forever on iNat as “Needs ID” … unless, of course, it gets two IDs as Dicot, then we can mark it as “can’t be improved” in the DQA and send it off to Casual ![]()
Homo sapiens - Evidence of = Casual. No plants involved. Altho there was a brave horticulturalist at Stellenbosch Botanical Garden who put his baby on a Victoria amazonica leaf

Why was this moved?
Medium-to-large flies, with an appetizer of smol males if its mating season.
“Although some mites move up and down a soil profile in response to humidity changes (e.g. diurnal migrations in desert litter), they also can be involuntarily moved down the soil profile. A spectacular example was the explosion of Mt. St. Helens in the north-western United States that knocked down entire forests and buried humus layers under 10 cm of volcanic ash. A year later, this blanket of ash itself contained no mites but the layers of humus it had sealed off from above contained numerous oribatid mites going about their business seemingly unaffected by the blast and entombment (Walter and Proctor 1999 ). The alternating bands of dark organic matter and lighter ash layers that one can see in road cuts in that region testify to its long volcanic history – and probably also to layers of fossilised mites.”

Funny!
Note to self. Stay away from mantis IDs ![]()

This comic reminded me of a current thread: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/a-question-about-fish-handling-on-inaturalist/
I apologize if this lobster comic is a repost. I didn’t read through all 728 posts in this thread, but I searched for “Twonks” and “Lobster” in the thread, and got zero hits, so hopefully it’s new.
I also just realized that although I posted this “nasty bug” over a year ago in the meme thread, it actually belongs in this thread, since it’s a comic. Sorry it took me so long to figure that out!
(Keywords so I can find this again: lobster boiling human pot)
