Oh this is so accurate! I hate it when these books do that! It’s always something like, draw an oval, add eyes, then add details and poof! You have a falcon. The only thing I ever end up learning is that I can’t draw.

When I was a kid and picked up a big ground beetle, and held it up to my face (right in front of my eye) to get a better look. I learned a hard lesson that day, and had to have my eye washed out with a water bottle.

That may be because kids are taught to be afraid of making mistakes. Steps 1 and 2 are there to show you the right proportions, which are the biggest hurdle; filling in the details takes experimentation as you train your eye and hand.

I think the biggest hurdle for adults is being ok with “mistakes”, in whatever new endeavor, especially arting and crafting!
My mother and I decided that the difference between “art” and “craft” is in the details… we have been lifelong crafters… I will indeed point out the mistakes of you can’t find them. We like to remember that only God is perfect and our mistakes prove we are human.
