Why shoud you put the nummer of observations and number of species on a page ? I see that the species are also summerised. Seems to me as very useless. It seems there is a lot of stuff i do not want to see and what i do want to see (information about my last 1000 observations) is very hard to find.

No location, no time stams, not even data stamps
If this information should be present it should only be present at the statistics tab (not present) and the profile.
I am really wondering why you ever want that on the me page.
Would prefer an option with a lot of information about the observation on the photo (date, location, time, country) in stead of only the name of the plant.
And a tabular one with nearly all data of the observation instead of only a name.
The old app was not excellent (did not show a time stamp and missed the date) but at least had an place identification

I just started trying out Inat Next today, and came onto the forum specifically to complain about not being able to put on my own ID (because I don’t like ID-ing to species level unless I am sure). But it sounds like I can put on my own ID? just it’s not a very good process? How can I do that? I’m sure someone gets into it somewhere but I’m in a bit of a hurry and can’t seem to find it off hand.

Font type is a bit littel and small (had a large android for a while but now a small litte iphone SE 2022)
For me, iNat Next is by far my fav out of all the iNaturalist apps. The notification system is a huge plus with the separation of notifications of my observations and others’, the options for the app layout’s customization, and the explore tab and the ability to have a more precise location filter is amazing. The limitations and downfalls are essentially features that are not added yet such as ability to add observations to projects and ability to view and add annotations and observation fields to the observations while out in the field which would help with the accuracy of the observations for researchers. The only thing that I have struggles with is when I try to view an notification and it turns into a blank screen. I do not know if it is a personal phone or network issue or a app glitch but it is worth noting here. Overall, I am very honored to be one of the first users of the app and very very honored to fall in love with the app and very excited to see what the future holds for iNat Next! Big shout out to the staff who made this app and iNaturalist possible!
I could be missing something, but trying it today it seemed to force me to take one of the suggested IDs and didn’t give me a chance to type in my own which classic allows. In a couple of cases it provided a (probably incorrect) species-level identification but didn’t offer a genus level (Taxus) even though there wasn’t enough to go on to correctly identify below that.
I didn’t see this comment in this thread initially, but I made what I think is a fairly detailed explanation of my biggest problem with iNaturalist Next in the linked separate thread. it’s at the level where I’m not able to use iNaturalist Next at all for my preferred workflow. I’ve logged out of and into the app again and will test it a second time just to be sure, but up until now that’s been my experience of in what way specifically it’s slow.
other than that, I second those who find the means of selecting the non-AI camera from a tiny icon in a cluttered menu to slow me (not the app itself) down frustratingly when using it, and following a notification to be quite slow to register it as read in the app.
I just uploaded some observations with the latest version of Next after not trying it for a while. It went pretty smoothly, being able to send directly from my gallery app is really nice. But it confidently suggested species IDs for things like Arion slugs and a larva firefly, taxa which I know to expect never to get species-level IDs for.
How do you mean ? You share it with inaturalist and than the workflow goed further in inat ? Did not try the multi photo option yet. It is indeed slow.
Yes, select multiple photos (up to 20) and then share them into the iNat app. Then within the app you can combine them into their respective observations and then adjust each observation as appropriate.
There are some quirks with this* but generally it’s a pretty nice workflow, more similar to the browser uploading process.

(I often have a situation where my phone takes a minute to narrow down the GPS coordinates, so the first photo for an observation will have an accuracy of like 12,000 metres and then the 3rd photo will have 6 m. In this workflow, if I run into this then I have to delete the whole observation and start over from the gallery app and choose a different image as the primary one in order to get the proper location. It would be nice if once you’ve started editing individual observations, you could still select which image to get date/location info from.)
Hi all. I’ve been working in the Advanced Mode on iNat Next for a bit and I really appreciate that these setting changes were added! Thank you! However, I recently switched back into the Default Mode because I’ve been doing some trainings for new users to get ready for City Nature Challenge. One issue I foresee is that there are a few more taps to get to tagging an observation as captive/cultivated. As always, we are encouraging everyone doing CNC to make wild observations because that is what iNat is for, but we also acknowledge that occasionally people are going to post non-wild things and we want to make sure those get tagged appropriately. In future versions, would it be possible for the Default Mode to have some sort of toggle button for captive/cultivated so you don’t have to (1) save the observation, (2) select the observation from the list, (3) tap the pencil, (4) tag it captive/cultivated, (5) save the observation again?
If I missed an easier way to do this in Default Mode, let me know. Thanks!
The explore function isn’t working for me at all. In the old app it opens up a map, with your location highlighted in blue…here it just gives me a grid of species, not even ones found nearby (since it’s listing 9500 species for me when I open it at home).
