Northeastern US Cottontail suggestions by the CV

Right now the CV is suggesting Yucatan Cottontail and Honduran Cottontail as the top 2 choices for the Northeastern United States, and says they are “Expected Nearby”.

They are not expected nearby :-D

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a better place to report these issues?

Probably has to do with the recent taxon split: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/163500. One can only hope that the CV will sort itself out.

It seems like the computer vision suggests all the outputs of the split, which is not desirable. It could be worthwhile to develop a feature request to use the Atlases after a split to make appropriate suggestions, but I don’t know how complex that would be to implement.

Cottontails were a bit of a mess before the recent taxon split, anyway, considering that a number of them require the animal in hand and expert ID at a bare minimum, if not DNA, in order to distinguish species. I’m not said expert, but I’ve been trying to bring the obvious “not enough info” ones back to genus level ID in the eastern/Appalachian overlap zone. I’ve had a bit of objection to it, so I’ve had to drop sources for that, too.
