Numbers for individual iNat users

I am trying to figure out how different numbers work on iNat. For example, it says I have identified two Lettered Sphinx, but have seen four. Since all four are my observations, how do I have two identifications and not four? I find anomalies like this in other numbers for myself. Is there a set way these numbers are supposed to work?

Your initial ID doesn’t count towards the number of identifications that show in the bottom right on the observation page. If you later agree with someone, that seems to count. I’ll see if I can find the other thread about numbers not adding up.

Here’s a few previous discussions:

Thanks for the links! I tried to find any related but couldn’t myself.

Can you provide a URL and screenshot of the number you’re referring to?

I hope that worked.

That number counts the number of lettered sphinx moth observations in Canada made by other users that you’ve added an ID to. Your four observations don’t count toward your ID count, the idea is to emphasize how many other people the identifier has helped out and encourage people to identify other users’ observations.

Here are all of the observations of lettered sphinx months in Canada that you’ve added an ID to: https://inaturalist.ca/observations?locale=en&place_id=6712&preferred_place_id=6712&subview=table&taxon_id=143452&ident_user_id=juliereid I see four of your own observations, and observations by two others, so that’s where the “2” number comes from.

Thanks for the explanation. I wasn’t sure if your own observations counted in the various numbers.
