Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):
Step 1: The species count differing between someone’s profile page and the explore view is well known/documented. But this is the first time I’ve ever seen a discrepancy for number of observations.
Step 2: None of this user’s observations are casual grade

Are you sure you got their username right when you went to explore? Are you viewing a download copy of the page by mistake? Are you sure you got their username right when you went to explore? If yes then pretty sure this is a bug.
There was a rash of these a few years ago that was especially evident when you saw a zero next to someone’s profile when looking at one of their observations using Identify. I started looking for patterns among them that may point to reproducible conditions so we could fix it, but the problem seemed to mysteriously fixed itself.
Last week I came across a new example of this (but unfortunately forgot to document it…), so I think it’s back and additional sleuthing for successful reproduction conditions is definitely appreciated. Here’s a Google sheet I made for it.
I also think it was publicly discussed but couldn’t find it with a cursory search so if anyone else recalls please link. It was likely in the Google Group that preceded the Discourse forum.
