Any of my recent observations (See example above) show that they are included in the project “https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/wild-species-in-botanic-gardens-in-europe”, although the project criteria should exclude them (since the observation must be taken in one of the botanical gardens of Europe) - When you go to the project, it correctly shows only the observations with the mentioned criteria, it is just that the project label is still visible on unrelated observations from the Africa continent.
If I filter to - project + you as observer + Africa = no obs.
Strange that the banner still shows. Usually that is because the project is set to any area - but the project is for Europe.
?
Exactly - within the project everything is as it is supposed to, it is just the label that is “out of place”. In theory the project is set to any area, but as a umbrella-project the ciriteria is that the observation needs to be part of one of the projects that are based within a botanical garden in Europe.
If I am not mistaken that would be an option for a traditional project, but not for an umbrella-project, where the inclusion criteria is only which other project the observation belongs to. Also, it would be rather a workaround than a solution to the issue - I am curious why that bug happens… But thank you anyways for the help!
An interesting one, for sure!
This may help narrow it down a little - I was able to locate other observations with the same issue, by looking at the non-Europe observations of other users who are members of the umbrella project itself:
I suspect one of the sub-projects of the umbrella project is set up incorrectly, although if it was I’d also expect that project to have a bunch of observations in it.
Yes, I found the problem - one of the projects included did not have any criteria for inclusion (or exclusion) of observations, I removed that project and now it is like it is supposed to be. Interesting that you can make a project without any criteria… maybe something that should be changed?
Some people might draft a project intending to come back to it and add criteria I suppose. I don’t know how many projects with no criteria there are but suspect it isn’t a huge problem, as they don’t have any observations associated with them:
“Projects need to select one or more taxa (e.g. birds, conifers), places (e.g. Brazil, Yellowstone), users, and/or dates to begin displaying observations.”
