Opinions on Worm Grunting or Summoning

What are people views on worm grunting or summoning? I am wondering through worm grunting would be a beneficial method in learning how to identify worms and enable people to share more worm observations. I have seen many Instagram reels about worm grunting on the positive view but I wonder if there are any views on unethical methods or how worm grunting is unethical and negative views on worm grunting. Personally, I have limited knowledge on this topic but see the method negatively impacting the behavior of worms as in this being a manmade manipulation of rain sensation on the surface of the soil. Sorry if I was unclear in some parts of this post, especially in the end part of this post, its a Friday evening after a long day at college lol.

I’ve done it before, not for iNatting, but for… gently ‘abducting’ earthworms for my compost bin.

Are you tricking them? Yes. Are you wasting their time? Yea, probably. The important thing is that you’re not hurting them. I expect that they return back down into the soil not long after the grunting stops. I suppose that bringing them to the surface could attract birds to come and eat them. Moles, as well.

Here in the Eastern USA, worms are most likely the invasive kind.

Given that you’re using them for composting, I’m sure they’ll think of your ‘abduction’ as a miraculous first-class upscale of their economy ticket
