Pb 82 - Fishing Sinkers Ecosystem

Agreed. I would certainly be open to purchasing a sticker or two with this message.

For your health, please don’t do this, there is no harmless level of lead to ingest, I personally never fish if I don’t have my pliers and I keep them in my tackle box so I don’t forget them

I mean no judgment, I just think it is risky to do this, lead poisoning is cumulative and hard to diagnose

Also you can use your fingers if you squeeze hard

And finally look for tin split shot, tin should not post any significant chemical hazard if bitten (there is still the risk of ingesting whatever pathogens are on your tackle), and it also eliminates exposure from contaminated hands while eating after fishing, and eliminates poisoning of waterfowl that like to eat split shot

In NY split shot is basically all tin given state law against sale of lead sinkers under 1/2 oz

Three photos from yesterday’s dive near the harbour. Something is still not right if the octopus castle has lead pieces instead of snail shells and it is uninhabited.
Unfortunately I didn’t collect them yesterday because I didn’t have any gloves, but I will go back… :ok_man:t4::man_shrugging:t4:

Just a heads up, I removed links to the GoFundMe campaign that @bommerer posted, and removed the edit histories from those as well. All I removed were the URLs. I totally sympathize with the cause but just like the Forum isn’t a place for promoting things like iNaturalist projects, it’s not a place for promoting donation campaigns, I’m sorry.

I apologize for any inconvenience that entering the “Stop the Fishing Sinker” campaign has caused. I will read the forum guidelines again carefully. Please excuse me.

I still think this needs to be branded as opposing lead not opposing sinkers generally, right now it could be mistaken for an anti-fishing campaign
