Is there something going on related to pipevine swallowtails? Just today I had a BUNCH of ID confirmations on a few pipevine swallowtail observations of mine. Some were as old as 8yrs old. All were already Research Grade.
I just spot-checked a handful of observations, and there are multiple identifiers (including some long-time, experienced IDers) adding IDs today, to observations from multiple states. I’d guess they do have a concerted effort to review this taxon.
I have recently tried to do some audio observation identifications (birds and unknowns). I have made the effort to sort observations by Ascending dates so that the older ones appear first. There are a lot of older ones out there.
I have recently asked some people who have identified moths in my list to go back and check all my observations for more. There are some that are a few years old. I’m happy that they made the effort to go back and find them.
I don’t know if people are aware of the “Ascending” option in the Identify filter window. But, if you are knowledgeable enough to identify a group of organisms, this is a good way to find the older ones.
Yeah, that’s what I was seeing on mine. I didn’t see anything “organized” here in the forums and given that my observations are in North America, didn’t think they’d come up as part of the southern Bioblitz event. And given that they came from multiple IDers and not just one, that someone must have organized something somewhere.
Oh, interesting. I had an identifier check a pipevine observation from 2017, but I didn’t think anything of it. But, then, I only have 2 pipevine observations–they aren’t that common where I am, and no one looked at the most recent. Maybe someone is starting a research project on pipevine swallowtails? That would be cool.
the few times it comes up I try to encourage people to do this. At this point I think most of my ID’s are from observations 3+ years old that were still “Needs ID”
