Napa, Ca - What I have noticed is how quiet it has become. I can only assume that the wildlife around me has noticed too. I thought I heard sounds, that I am guessing, were young coyotes yipping in the distance early in the morning before the sun came up. I never heard that before. Also, I am seeing a variety of hummingbirds in my backyard and hearing them approach has become much easier.
Had a possum walking leisurely through my yard yesterday during daytime. He normally just left evidence of nighttime visits.
Ericas are daunting. Especially the small pink horde.
But if I add āEricaā I often find the species appears overnight. People with better skills than mine, can, go to the right species.
Is that where theyāre native to? People keep them in their yards to keep ticks at bay here in canada, but Iām not sure where theyāre from. I feel the names arenāt always as related to locations as we would think.
I wonder - perhaps your Canadian pets are a related species?
Your Canadian Helmeted Guineafowl is from big part of Africa and Madgascar, itās a common domestic bird and is found around the globe.
Interesting! thanks!
They called Egyptian Geese ducks and geese in one video, doesnāt sound like a 100% prooved source of information.
Where I am I have definitely noticed better air quality reminiscent of my youth, and also various peri-urban bird species becoming bolder and more visible, spending more time in the middle of streets, etc. I think that is a positiveā¦?
I have been hearing more different species of birds and more elaborate back and forth between multiple birds.
It may be the decreased air and road traffic noise, and/or it is spring and more species are coming here.
Here in Czech Republic the restrictions are already loosening. But since going for a walk or individual sports outside werenāt prohibited the āquarantineā looks more like holidays - everybody has decided to go out. My favourite bird watching places are full of people, so Iām looking for more obscure places. Iāve seen few hawk/kite-like silhouettes flying above the city, whose are seen more likely outside cities.
But thatās for a city, bigger changes are maybe in the countryside.
Itās April, so hawks can be seen migrating pretty everywhere, so keep an eye on those.)
I havenāt read the entire chain so maybe this has been said already, but I would imagine that deaths of small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians due to roadkill are probably way, way down. Not sure if it would be enough to have a significant impact on a population, though.
