Search functionality for Sequenced/Bar coded Fungal Specimen by Species

Does functionality currently exist in iNaturalist to search for DNA sequenced/bar coded fungal specimen by species? I’ve been using research grade observations for my online research, but have been told by others that the information isn’t always reliable due to misidentified research grade observations. It always comes down to DNA. So, this functionality could be very useful. Thank you.

There are (semi)standardized observation fields that people use for barcodes, so you can search for observations that contain those fields. But not all people put the barcode on iNat - some people use other sites to store that data and just link there from the iNat observation.

Here is an example of an observation with some relevant observation fields filled out: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/239840484

If you wanted to search for all Fungi observations that include this field, you could use a URL like this (and further refine by taxon/location/etc. as needed): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=47170&verifiable=any&field:DNA%20Barcode%20ITS=

And here’s the link for the specimens that have the LSU gene sequenced (the one given by jgw_atx is for ITS): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=47170&verifiable=any&field:DNA%20Barcode%20LSU=
FWIW, ITS is much more useful for verifying species currently.

I figured there was a way to set up a search, but I had no idea how to do it. Thank you for sharing the link! I plan to put it to good use.

Thank you for sharing this link too, and for sharing the ITS info. I just started learning more about sequencing, and every bit of knowledge helps.

Hello Again,

I was wondering if you can help me with another code? My goal is to keep track of all dried fungal specimen in my collection. I’d like to automate the process utilizing the Observation Field - Voucher Specimen Taken, when the answer is yes.

In the past, I only used the Voucher Specimen Taken field for MycoBlitz participation, but I figure it can be used any time I obtain a specimen for dry storage/study. Rather adding individual observation manually, I want the observations to populate to my iNat profile page when the answer is yes. I collect a lot of specimen, and manually adding them is a real chore.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!
