Taxa URL option

I have this really nice link I bookmarked years ago: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/taxa?place_id=18&taxon_id=85493.

I don’t remember how I created it. Is it possible to create this type of URL from the inaturalist website or is it necessary to type it out?

You can’t make these on the website itself, but you can start in the Identify modal and use the link there. Just change the “identify” to “taxa” and it should work, as long as you have one of the following fields entered:

place_id

user_id

projects

on

d1 and d2

Nice!

Yes, you can just filter down to what you want in the Explore window and copy the resulting URL.

i’m not sure what folks do with the information from that page exactly, but it’s also possible to get similar information from the (undocumented) API endpoint that is used by the Dynamic Life List. straight from the API, the data won’t be formatted in a tree, and it doesn’t include common names, but you can get observation counts for each taxon, and the data can be used to create all sorts of custom trees, sunburst charts, icicle charts, etc.
