The NaturalistaUY Bot

Hi everyone!

I present to you: The NaturalistaUY Bot

We built this bot in order to keep track on the species being recorded for the country.

The bot is programmed (since the 24th of May, 2024) to review records uploaded in Uruguay day by day and highlight the one that documents the rarest species of the day. It does this through a call to the iNaturalist API that finds all the species recorded a week ago on that day and calculates the number of times each species had been recorded in Uruguay and how many times in iNaturalist, i.e. in the platform in general. Moving forward, we also want to be able to highlight observers, identifiers, places in our country and projects.

The highlighted observations are also being gathered in a traditional project: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/observacion-del-dia-naturalistauy-bot). We might in the future try to add them automatically also through the API.

Una problema possible es que mucha gente no carga su observaciones en la día que lo toma. Si su Bot crea la llamada en la misma día, es posible que va a perder observaciones más interesante.

Tambien, lo siento por mí español de antemano.

Hola Eric! El bot revisa una semana para atrás en función de la fecha que se cargó y no la que se observó. Es decir, hoy martes ve lo que se cargó el martes pasado. Así también se da el tiempo de una semana a las identificaciones. Edité el post para describir mejor eso. Saludos!

¡Hola Flo! Gracias por su explicación. Tambien, si quieras, poderías usar el bot por una llamada en el final del año. Entonces, poderías ver unos pocos de los observaciónes más interesante del año. Es como el año en revisión que el personal hace.
