Thread about slang terms for confusing lookalikes in your taxon

I’m not a birder, but I knew about LBJ’s (Little Brown Jobs).

Two I’ve used in my field journals for many years:
“Clave Swallows” (Cliff or Cave?)
“Baltilock’s Oriole” (Baltimore or Bullock’s?)
These are usually applied to flocks of birds not studied carefully, and/or immature/female birds.

FYP: neither “For Your Page” nor “Fixed Your Post” but “F*cking Yellow Plant” for dandelions, hawkweeds and the likes

Similarly, there is also Baypoll Warbler for Blackpoll/Bay-breasted Warbler.

This is unofficial, but jlisby has very accurately described my lichen observation of a bunch of similar crustose/leprose lichens all growing mixed up in the same spot as “The Mess”. And that is what I’ve been calling these occurrences since.

Plants almost too tiny to notice are called dinkophytes, but it is more of a term of endearment
