To share or not to share private/obscured coordinates in a scientific publication?

I would say absolutely do not share obscured coordinates as it will reduce confidence in iNaturalist site and will make people possibly hesitate to post and participate any further. You have an incredible resource available with thousands of people helping, and sure it could be better with more accurate locations, so I can understand the desire to consider ignoring people’s privacy for the better of science. But this sort of thing will cause concern about iNaturalists protection of personal data if they find out and and I would suggest to just live with the location inaccuracies and assgn a different uncertainty factor to those without exact coords.

Go ahead, do what you want. I would be honest about my feelings but since opposing opinion is not allowed…

FYI. My “Opinion” is that, science is not more important than our privacy and respecting others.
