UI: I never know which search filters will be available

Sometimes you have search results like these:There are drop down menus for filters including “quality grade” and “sex”

https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/69062-Dorymyrmex/browse_photos

Other times the search results are like this:

https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=69062

You can use the map to make your own regions (I love this!) and see distributions on the map. You can also apply filters by clicking the gray “filters” box… and this has some of the same filters as the other kind of search but NOT “sex” and a few others.

And I often find myself wanting one kind of search but getting the other then clicking around and searching again until it switches.

I think it’s because there are two search boxes and they do slightly different things?

Is there a work around?

In the ID module you can filter by annotations (so you can search for example for male ants), whereas on the explore page you can’t : /

I’ve discovered that if I add:

&term_id=9&term_value_id=11

to the end of a search URL it will restrict it to males. To find these codes I searched for males ants then deleted the things from the URL until was just showing males then I copied this … so it should work for other things too.
